May 2, 2026: Scotland the Brave for bagpiper wannabes is in Book 2.
One of the unofficial national anthems of Scotland sounds awesome on bagpipes marching in the St. Patrick's day parade or at a Celtic festival which ironically they're hosting here in Albuquerque this weekend. Always good fun finding time to lift something ridiculously heavy and throw it really far.
This tune sounds a little less grand on my soprano ukulele, but it's still pretty fun to play. There's a pretty solid amount of bar chords to negotiate including the two challenging shapes in Measure 5 and the extra annoying one in Measure 21. Those shapes are going to keep showing up so you might as well take time to master them now. The additional chords at the top of Page 2 really give the song a little oomph. Try to play this in a steady march tempo, but if you're like me, I march really really slowly so somebody might run up and talk me into wearing a kilt. I'd do it no questions asked.
Important note: We will NOT meet on Sunday night May 3, as I need to take a week off, so use the time to play through the previous ten arpeggios and I will see you the following Sunday. Info is here.
