Molly Malone

April 25, 2026: Water is Wide (Irish Traditional) is posted in Book 2.

Seems like there's a lot of dead people in folk music and poor Molly is just selling fish like her mom and dad and now she's dead. Luckily, there's an amazing statue in one of the main squares in Dublin and I've been there to make sure they're celebrating her achievements. You will see in the photo above she appears to be getting touched quite a lot more often on certain parts of her anatomy than others, probably by rascals, rogues, and rakes, but nevertheless, she's an Irish treasure and so is this song.

One of my students wrote to me this week and said our arrangement is a confidence booster, so go give it a try as it's mostly easy-ish. It'll give you a bit of heartburn if you're fighting the E minor chord as badly as I did when I first started. Once you conquer placing your Em chord, then you'll need to get the 5th fret into the action too so it's kinda fiddly. Play slow and that'll give you a minute to get those shapes in place.

Remember we're getting together on Sunday nights at 7 pm Mountain time on YouTube and you should join us. Info isĀ here.
